We must remember...

As most of you may have heard, there have been some amazing breakthroughs this past month in linking certain genes to Alzheimer's, but there is still a lot of work to be done. This year, the first of the Boomer Generation turns 65. To bring urgently-needed attention to the risk facing the Boomers, Alzheimer's Association released a groundbreaking study, Generation Alzheimer's: The Defining Disease of the Baby Boomers.

The information you read is just the beginning of what has been discovered. Please take a few minutes of your time and do some homework on the ever growing problem of Alzheimer's.

Going Under...

Fresno, California - A story that will not amaze me now or ever, this man has done what most homeless people haven't thought of yet. Bruce Stacy a homeless carpenter has dug himself a home underground where he lives and spends his time away from the elements. Apparently he has built himself a few of these before in the past. Although the video below doesn't mention where they are or what has happened to them it looks like Mr. Stacy has improved his work where he even has an escape tunnel when ever some one approaches that is of the unfamiliar kind. The percentage of homeless people is rising at a record pace, we need to help those in need until they are able to get back on their feet financially and spiritually.

The Farm...

I went to MacQueens farm yesterday to find myself buying some nice size apples and of course their specialty donuts for my wife and my daughter. The day was pretty nice and it was rather warm out. The view of fall in the trees surrounding the farm was a thing of beauty. As you can see I took some pictures of the products being sold at the market. The colors in that picture are just a few of what I saw at the market. If any of you are within the area and you know of this farm please stop by before the cold hits and walk through the apple trees and select your own apples, the experience is unforgettable.

Rush on top of things...

Philanthropist Betty Casey won the Harry Reid "phony soldiers" smear letter with a $2,100,100 donation to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation (MC-LEF.org). Rush matched that donation with $2,100,100 of his own money. The Democrats donated $0 to the children of our fallen heroes. I was hoping to see Harry himself throw in some cash for the cause but of course he would much rather try to make it look like he and Rush were in on this the whole time by asking those who were listening to him to participate in the bid because after all it was for the kids. What a loser.

Game 3 goes to the Indians...

MLB: Cleveland 4, Boston 2
CLEVELAND (UPI) -- Kenny Lofton hit a two-run homer Monday, powering the Cleveland Indians to a 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox and a 2-1 lead in the AL Championship Series.
Winning pitcher Jake Westbrook worked 6 2/3 innings. He gave up seven hits including a two-run homer by Jason Varitek in the seventh inning and three walks.
Lofton hit his home run in the second inning. Cleveland got its other two runs in the fifth. Asdrubal Cabrera singled to drive in Casey Blake for a 3-0 lead. Travis Hafner then beat out a potential double play as Grady Sizemore scored for a 4-0 lead.
Daisuke Matsuzaka suffered the loss, giving up all four runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Game two goes to Cleveland...

MLB: Cleveland 13, Boston 6
BOSTON (UPI) -- Trot Nixon had the go-ahead RBI and Franklin Gutierrez hit a three-run homer in a seven-run 11th Saturday night, as the Cleveland Indians beat Boston, 13-6. The road win at Fenway Park allowed the Indians to tie the Red Sox at one win apiece in their best-of-seven American League Championship Series.
Gutierrez finished with four RBI, Jhonny Peralta had a three-run homer and four RBI, and Grady Sizemore had a solo home run for Cleveland, which put together a 17-hit attack. Tom Mastny (1-0) got the victory, pitching one inning in relief. Eric Gagne (0-1) took the loss. He combined with Javier Lopez and Jon Lester to let in seven runs in relief. After Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the fifth, Mike Lowell followed with a solo shot. Ramirez has 23 career post-season homers -- more than any other player.
Game 3 is set for Monday night in Cleveland.

DALLAS (UPI) -- The father of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is dealing with prostate cancer. The Dallas Morning News Friday reported 50-year-old Ramiro Romo learned he had the illness late last season when his son developed into an NFL starting quarterback.

"He's your dad,' a worried Tony Romo told the newspaper after practice Thursday.
"Tony and his dad, they really have a good relationship," said tight end Jason Witten. 'I don't think he wants Tony to think a lot about it or want him losing his concentration. But they're best friends, so that makes it harder."

The report added Ramiro Romo is supposed to have surgery, but details of his diagnosis were not available, and a surgery date was not disclosed. Tony Romo said he expects his father to be in the stands at Texas Stadium in Irving when the unbeaten Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots clash Sunday afternoon.

An Interrupted Plan...

By looking at the image to the right simply disturbs me because for this kid to have this much arsenal and then having the mom being found responsible for purchasing some of the weaponry which includes a 9mm rifle and allowing her son to actually have gun powder in the home. Call me an out of the box thinker here but didn't she get a clue or an insight or heck even a hint that her son was a bit out there. What kid collects guns as a hobby, why I say that - because it would not surprise me if she pleads not guilty due to her thinking it was a collection that he had and that it didn't have any other meaning to it other then that. I need to meet the friend that brought this to the attention of the police because that person needs to be honored for preventing a possible horror.

Visiting the Big House!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending a Michigan football game and let me tell you that it was worth it from beginning to end. I parked in the Brown Lot which cost us about $15 bucks, they offered those who parking there a shuttle ride to the stadium. It was an enjoyable ride going through one of the golf courses. Another thing that I noticed is that all Michigan fans had a great personality and sense of humor a great bunch to have met personally. The game itself was awesome, as you all might know Michigan won over Eastern Michigan 33 - 22. It felt great being there and witnessing a Big House game first hand. I took lots of photos and created a video stream so that you can see what I saw. Enjoy and have a great weekend.

About a month or so ago our mayor was caught leaving his dog in his car with the windows up with about an inch or two of an opening for air to come in. He refused to admit that what he did was wrong and went about his business. A few days later he attends a gathering at UT where he once again left his dog in the car with the heat being unbearable, if you get the audio copy of that days event you can actually hear the dog in the background yelping. With the previous neglect and then this one you would of thought that the humane society would of done something but because they did not have any of their people there to witness it first hand they were unable to do anything. Well now of course to make things all good again the mayor has decided to do a PSA and inform people of what not to do when having your furry companion with you and you are unable to take the animal inside with you. Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't he do this twice before getting the hint? Only in Toledo Baby...

All points no defense...

NFL: Cleveland 51, Cincinnati 45

CLEVELAND (UPI) -- Derek Anderson threw for 328 yards and five touchdowns, and Jamal Lewis rushed for 215 yards and a score as Cleveland outlasted Cincinnati 51-45 Sunday.
The Browns had to overcome a career-high six TD passes from Carson Palmer, and the game featured more than 1,000 yards of offense.

On the Bengals' final drive, Palmer was intercepted with 20 seconds left on the clock by Browns cornerback Leigh Bodden. Bodden made a diving catch near Cleveland's sideline and managed to stay inbounds at the 27-yard line, sealing the win.
Anderson, starting in place of Charlie Frye, who was traded to Seattle last week, completed 20 of 33 and was intercepted once.

Braylon Edwards caught eight for 146 yards and two touchdowns, and Joe Jurevicius caught two touchdown passes for the Browns (1-1), who finished with 554 total yards and 23 first downs. Kellen Winslow had six receptions for 100 yards and a score.
Palmer went 33 of 50 for 401 yards and was intercepted off twice. Chad Johnson caught 11 balls for 209 yards and two touchdowns for the Bengals (1-1), who gained 531 total yards and 33 first downs.

It figures the one time I choose Cinci to win another game they come up just short of a win. Watching the game though was a bit nerve racking, watching them go from end to end with hardly any trouble from either defensive team.

Still Remembering...

It has been six years but it feels like it was just yesterday when the horrible events 9/11 unfolded. We (my family and I) had a moment to reflect on that day's events and what was to follow the from then until now. Our hearts are still heavy when we think of the lives lost both innocently and bravely. The link at the bottom of this post will direct you to a site that CNN has with all that were lost on that beautiful Tuesday morning. My heart will continue to go out to the families of those lost as well as those who survived.

Tonight's the Night!

Game 1 of the football season, and I'm ready to sit back and watch them pound on each other relentlessly. I have joined the office pool for the season and I hope that my picks get me some top points. I did not play last year but I kept a side score through out the season and I ended up doing really good. This year things are going to get good because I plan on walking out with a lot of points and some respect as well. If those of you reading this are also playing at your jobs or between some friends I wish you all good luck.

Not Old School at all...

90-year-old Estelle Rees-Arroyo is one of Sacramento State's new students, she's also the University's oldest student.

All I can say is that for a woman of her age still wanting to continue her education is something that has to be respected and honored. My question is with her being 90 years old can she input some data on her past that might add to the class lessons. I would be more then honored to have her in my class, I would definitely ask her some questions regarding what her past was like and did she come across anyone that might of influenced her in the slightest bit. My hat goes off to her for continueing her education especially at her age.

Napolean's Parts...

The title is some what weird and awkward but it is true.

Exiled emperor Napoleon Bonaparte died on May 5, 1821. The following day, doctors conducted an autopsy, which was reportedly witnessed by many people, including a priest named Ange Vignali.

Though the body was said to be largely intact at the time of the undertaking, it seems the priest took home a souvenir. In 1916, Vignali's heirs sold a collection of Napoleonic artifacts, including what they claim to be the emperor's penis.

While no one knows for sure if it really is Napoleon's, uh, manhood, people have paid good money for the penis. Currently, it's in the possession of an American urologist.

I have just spent my lunch hour watching and reading news stories that have accured in the past few days and it seems that these crimes share a common factor and I'm not talking about the criminals.

1. Jose Carranza - kills three college kids execution style in Newark, New Jersey.
2. Eiken Elam Saimon - killed three inside a southwestern Missouri church.
3. Robert Daniel Langston and Jesus Reyes Terrazas open fire and kill three in a busy freeway in Dallas, Texas.

Is it me or are these cases of a violent nature being kept at only three and not any more then that. I believe that people die for a reason but when there are cases like the three above you have to ask yourself "Is someone working over time upstairs to limit the loss of life?"

Of Interest...

This statue currently stands outside the Iraqi palace, now home to the 4th Infantry division. It will eventually be shipped home and put in the memorial museum in Fort Hood, TX.

The statue was created by an Iraqi artist named Kalat who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad. Kalat was so grateful for the Americans liberation of his country; he melted 3 of the heads of the fallen Saddam and made the statue as a memorial to the American soldiers and their fallen warriors. Kalat worked on this memorial night and day for several months.

To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms. Do you know why we don't hear about this in the news? Because it is heart warming and praise worthy. The media avoids it because it does not have the shock effect. But we can do something about it.

We can pass this along to as many people as we can in honor of all our brave military personnel who are making a difference each and every day by simply mentioning this post or even talking about it with your friends and family.
